A Singapore Government Agency Website
The QR code is generated via the MyICA mobile app, which can be downloaded for free from both App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android).
A traveller can arrange with the individual(s) who had previously created a profile under his/her MyICA mobile app to edit or delete the profile information.ICA does not have access to any individual's MyICA mobile app to view, delete or edit a profile.
When the traveller accesses the QR code via the MyICA mobile app and their passports is still valid, the QR code's validity will be automatically extended. Hence, no further actions are required for these group of travellers. The QR code will be invalid for use once the passport has expired. MyICA mobile app will prompt users that their passport has expired or is expiring (i.e., passport with less than six months' validity). After travellers have received a new passport, they can update their or others' profile information in MyICA mobile app. This includes making changes to details such as the new passport number and passport expiry date.
All travellers (Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents, Long Term Pass Holders, and foreign visitors), regardless of age, with the exception of first-time foreign visitors and those re-entering Singapore using a different passport from their last visit to Singapore, can enjoy passport-less clearance by presenting QR code generated via the MyICA mobile app, at Singapore land checkpoints.Travellers who are using passports that have not been used for entry into Singapore before, will have to present their passports for their immigration clearance. Thereafter, travellers will be eligible to use the QR code for immigration clearance in their subsequent trips.
Travellers arriving and departing Singapore by car via Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints can use QR codes in lieu of passports for faster and more convenient immigration clearance. This means that instead of handing their passports to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer at the car counter, they will only need to scan a single QR code which they generate prior to arriving at the checkpoint, for all the travellers in the car.
The QR code can only be used for immigration clearance at Singapore land checkpoints. Travellers are reminded to bring their passports when travelling overseas as it remains as the official travel document for identification for overseas travel.
It is important that those travelling in a group use a group QR code containing the passport details of those travelling in the same vehicle. In this case, to ensure a seamless and smooth travel experience, the traveller should use a group QR code that contains his/her three other travelling companions' profiles if only four (and not five) people are travelling.Tip: Traveller can create a group QR code that has five profiles and another separate QR code that contains four profiles. Different QR codes can be named uniquely (e.g., Family, Friends, and Colleagues).
The QR code generated from the MyICA mobile app is designed with security measures to protect personal information and prevent unauthorised access. The QR code will be encrypted to safeguard personal data, which can only be retrieved and decrypted by authorised ICA systems. For added privacy, once a profile is created, the essential data of other travellers in the group QR code such as NRIC/FIN, Malaysian ID number, passport number, will be masked. If travellers have reservations about sharing their personal details with the driver, they can self-scan their individual QR code or present their passport for immigration clearance.
The QR code streamlines the current immigration clearance process for group travellers in car. A single QR code will also allow individual traveller or multiple travellers in the car to be cleared at one go, thus reducing travellers' overall waiting time. The created profile(s) for the QR code can be saved and used for future trips for individual user and for the same group of travellers without the need to re-key the details. Families, for example, will not need to re-generate the information for subsequent trips, unless there are changes to the passport details (e.g., Passport Number and Date of Expiry). This allows faster immigration clearance and reduces the overall waiting time for travellers in car. This also brings convenience by reducing the need for travellers in vehicles to create QR code for each trip.
For travellers who have not downloaded the MyICA mobile app and/or are unable to generate the QR code, they can still present their passport to the ICA officer at the counter. We highly recommend travellers to download the MyICA mobile app and use the QR code for faster and more convenient immigration clearance.
The profile information of other travelling companion that can be viewed by the traveller (owner of mobile device) includes Full Name, Date of Birth, Nationality and Date of Passport Expiry. This information is useful to identify the correct profile to edit, and to select the correct profiles to generate group QR code.
The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) under the "Scan Passport" function will only capture the relevant information from the Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) of the passport. The MyICA mobile app or personal mobile device will not store any images of the passport biodata page.
