Our Kitchen Programme targets seniors (aged 50 years and above) at-risk of social isolation. The programme seeks to reduce the risk of social isolation and is guided by the four principles:
1) Participating seniors will contribute ideas to the kitchen concept and programme,
2) Programme is led by social workers to understand unmet needs and issues,
3) Seniors are in small group settings to enable formation of friendships and
4) A 12-week structured programme that promotes seniors learning and strengthens their social network.
The programme outcomes are for seniors to
a) make new friends and build a social network,
b) increase participation in senior activity centre’s activities,
c) learn knowledge and skills about cooking and nutrition and
d) maintain instrumental activities of living i.e. preparing meals. In the process, seniors build support networks, sense of independence, autonomy and dignity. In the long run, these outcomes will contribute to seniors staying connected and ageing in place.
