- For deceased with no immediate Next-of-Kin, social workers or Funeral Directors assisting in the post-death matters can approach the hospital or certifying doctor for a hardcopy printout of the death certificate. Only Next-of-Kin of the deceased or persons authorised by the Next-of-Kin are allowed to download a copy of the digital death certificate from My Legacy. The Next-of-Kin for this purpose are: spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, aunt/uncle and niece/nephew.
How can the next of kin submit the digital death certificate to HDB and banks if they are requesting an "original" hardcopy?
For deaths that occur after 29 May 2022, only digital death certificates will be issued. You can provide the digital death certificate to HDB/banks who require you to submit the death certificate. Agencies who receive digital death certificates from NOK can verify these death certificates by scanning the QR code printed at the bottom right of the digital death certificates or visit https://go.gov.sg/ica-verify-edc.
Do we still need to return the deceased's NRIC to the police?
There is no longer a need to surrender the deceased’s NRIC in police station for physical invalidation. To prevent it from being misused, you can either destroy the NRIC or punch a hole in it.I am unable to download digital death certificate from My Legacy website even though it is within 30 days
You can download the digital death certificate from My Legacy website if the person has passed within 30 days from the date of issuance of death.
Please check if you have entered the information - i.e. death certificate number, date of death and deceased's NRIC number correctly.
If you have the Confirmation of Death number but do not have the death cert number, you should contact the doctor or hospital to ask for the death cert number, as the doctor may have overlooked to input the Confirmation of Death number into the system.
In the absence of a death certificate, you can use the Confirmation of Death document to arrange for the funeral and apply for cremation/burial. If you do not have this document, please approach the doctor/hospital for it.
If the doctor has already certified the death online, you may try to download the digital death certificate 24 hours later.

Can I get the digital death certificate for deaths which occurred before 29 May 2022?
Digital death certificates are only issued for deaths which occurred after 29 May 2022. If you need a copy of your late NOK's death certificate, you can apply for a death extract online via https://go.gov.sg/ica-extracts. Please note you would be required to provide the following information of your late NOK:
Full name,
Date of death and,
Singapore death certificate number or NRIC number

If my next-of-kin passes away outside Singapore, should I report the death in the foreign country or in Singapore?
For deaths that happened overseas, the deceased's next-of-kin should register the death and obtain a death certificate from the foreign authorities in the country where the person had passed on. Is it possible to issue the death certicate in another language?
All death certificates issued by ICA are in English. ICA does not issue death certificates in any other languages. You may wish to have the document translated by a translator/agency recognised by the foreign authorities. If the patient has been in and out of A&E but passed on at home, should the next-of-kin (NOK) contact the doctor from the hospital who treated the deceased or call the nearby GP who has no medical record of the deceased?
The Next-of-Kin can call any medical practitioner to certify the death and share the deceased's pre-existing medical conditions and reports.If the next-of-kin (NOK) do not have a smart phone, can they proceed to police station to report death when the doctor certified death at home?
There is no need to go to a police station to report death. Death is registered automatically when the doctor certifies the death online. If death is certified after operating hours, you can either:
Seek assistance from friends/family/volunteers to download/print a copy of the digital death certificate from My Legacy on their behalf; or
Let the certifying doctor know that you require a hard copy. The certifying doctor/hospital would either issue a printed copy of the digital death certificate or a written document known as Confirmation of Death that provides the death certification details After settling the post-death matters, you can download/print the digital death certificate from My Legacy if required.
Do we still need to inform the police, bank & CPF if the deceased pass on?
There is no need to go to police station to register death now. To settle the deceased's monies, you will need to find out if the deceased had made any will and CPF nomination.
