Is art therapy similar to counselling?

Updated by SGH-AHPEDIA

Art therapy and counselling are both mental health services but use different techniques and tools to support clients. They can also be more suited to certain therapeutic goals. While counselling supports problem-solving, coping skills, and communication using verbal techniques, art therapists are trained to specialise in both psychological theories and art-based interventions, being particularly useful in addressing content that are hard to verbalise or understand.
