Is art therapy and 'art as therapy' the same?

Updated by SGH-AHPEDIA

No. Art therapy is psychotherapeutic in nature – it is a tool to help individuals surface, identify, and process their emotions, thoughts, and challenges. Art as therapy however refers to using art and art-based activities as a medium to encourage wellness and to bring individual therapeutic benefits such as stress relief, mindfulness, enjoyment, and relaxation, or group-centered benefits like community-building and social engagement.
