When can I submit a Government-Paid Leave (GPL) claim, and can I claim for leave dates not yet taken?
You cannot claim for leave dates that have not yet been taken. Every GPL claim must only include leave dates that have already been completed. That said, you do not need to wait until your entire leave entitlement is used before submitting your first claim.
Submission options
You have three ways to submit a GPL claim:
Single claim — Submit one claim after you have completed your entire leave period.
Multiple claims — Submit claims progressively by adding leave days onto previously approved claims, as long as those days have already been taken.
Partial claim — Submit a claim for a portion of your leave already taken, even if you still have remaining entitlement to use.
For employers
The Government-Paid Leave Schemes (GPLS) operates on a reimbursement basis. You must first pay your employee's full salary and any claimable allowances during the leave period as though they were working continuously, before seeking reimbursement from the Government.
For self-employed persons (SEPs)
You may only submit a claim after you have taken your GPL entitlement.
