Can I submit Government-Paid Leave (GPL) claims as both an employee and a self-employed person if I have multiple employments?
Yes. If you are concurrently employed and self-employed, both you (as a self-employed person) and your employer(s) can submit separate GPL claims for reimbursement. However, the total reimbursement across all claims is subject to the per-parent reimbursement limit.
How claims are processed for GPML, AL, GPPL, and SPL
For parents with a child born or a Formal Intent to Adopt (FIA) date on or after 1 April 2025, claims from your employer(s) will be processed first, before your claim as a self-employed person is assessed. This ensures fairness to employers, as they would have already paid your full salary during the period you were on leave.
After all employer claims have been processed and apportioned, your self-employed claim will be assessed against the remaining reimbursement available under the per-parent limit. If the per-parent reimbursement limit has already been reached by the employer claims, your self-employed claim will be rejected.
How claims are processed for GPCL and ECL
For claims submitted on or after 1 April 2025, reimbursement will be paid up to the per-parent reimbursement limit across all employments. Once the limit is reached, subsequent claims — including your claim as a self-employed person — will be rejected.
