What is the Personal Learning Device (PLD) that students in OPSS are using?
The Chromebook is the PLD used in OPSS. It is versatile, economical and sufficient to meet the needs for all subjects offered in OPSS.
Is it compulsory to purchase a Personal Learning Device (PLD)?
Yes, under the MOE PDLP, all secondary school students must have a PLD for their learning.
My child/ward already owns a laptop/iPad. Can my child/ward use this as the PLD?
Any personal device to be used as a PLD will have to be assessed by the school. If the devices meet the minimum requirements, a Device Management Application (DMA) must be installed in order for your child/ward to use these devices in school. As such, it is highly recommended to purchase a PLD via the school as we advocate for students to keep schoolwork on the PLD and usage of their personal devices separate.
What is DMA?
DMA is an application that is installed on all PLDs. The DMA allows your child’s/ward’s activities to be monitored. This will allow you to safeguard the interests and safety of your child/ward in cyberspace.
