Are employees with foreign entities (not registered locally) entitled to Government-Paid Leave (GPL) benefits?
Statutory parental leave entitlements in Singapore apply to employment relationships governed by Singapore law. As such, employees whose employment contracts are subject to the laws of a foreign jurisdiction are not entitled to GPL schemes, as their employer is not bound by Singapore's statutory leave framework. Such entities are also not eligible to claim GPL reimbursement, even if they choose to grant the leave voluntarily.
If you are employed by an overseas entity, you may wish to contact your HR department directly to check whether parental leave may be granted on a discretionary basis.
