Can I submit a Government-Paid Leave (GPL) claim for leave dates that have not been taken yet?

Updated by MSF

No, claims cannot be submitted for leave dates that have not yet been taken.

For Employers:

The Government-Paid Leave schemes operate on a reimbursement basis. Employers must:

  • Pay the employee's salary and claimable allowances (if applicable) during leave days as though the employee has been working continuously

  • Only seek reimbursement after fulfilling these payment obligations and leave has been taken.

For Self-Employed Individuals:

Self-employed persons may only submit a claim after they have actually utilised their GPL entitlement.
