What safeguards are there to ensure training safety under the refreshed medical classification system?

Updated by MINDEF

Safety remains a key priority for all training in the SAF and Home Team. Similar to today, training will continue to be guided by medical exemptions, where servicemen with specific medical exemptions will be excluded from training activities and vocations that may not be suitable for their medical condition(s). Under the refreshed MCS, there will be a standardised list of medical exemptions that determine the serviceman’s eligibility for training activities and vocations.

There will be clear guidelines for commanders on the eligibility to participate in training activities for NSFs with different medical exemptions. Commanders and trainers will be able to generate a pre-verified list of NSFs who are medically eligible to participate in the training activities.

Further, open reporting and regular feedback is encouraged as part of efforts to continually enhance the safety management system. There are avenues for soldiers to speak up and provide feedback on safety matters.
