Why has MINDEF and MHA refreshed the MCS?

Updated by MINDEF

The PES system has served the SAF and HT well since the 1970s, as a robust and safe system to determine training and vocation eligibility for servicemen. The defence and security landscape has continued to evolve. New operational roles and requirements have emerged. Over the past few years, the SAF and the HT have embarked on job redesign efforts, to enable servicemen to be deployed to a wider range of operational roles.

To complement these efforts in ensuring meaningful deployment of servicemen, MINDEF/SAF refreshed the medical classification system, making it more precise and thereby opening up more vocations and roles that our servicemen can be deployed to.

Notwithstanding the changes to the medical classification system, safety will remain a priority for all training in the SAF and the Home Team.
