A CMC is a session in which a registrar will manage the case and give the parties an opportunity to resolve their dispute beyond the opportunity they would have had at the mediation conducted by the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management. If the parties are able to reach a settlement for all or some of the matters in dispute during the CMC, the parties can either enter a settlement agreement or make a request to the registrar for the agreement to be recorded as a consent order.

If the parties are unable to settle some or all of their dispute at the CMC, the registrar will give directions on how the case should proceed. This would typically including directions for the parties to file the evidence they wish to rely on, and fixing a hearing date for parties to appear before a tribunal magistrate to make a determination on the case. It is mandatory for both the Claimant and Respondent to attend the CMC.
