Scammers are posing as staff from legitimate recruitment agencies to advertise fake concert crew jobs on Telegram and Carousell. Since March 2026, the Police and the Singpass Trust and Safety team have worked together to uncover at least 20 such cases. Understanding how this scam works is your first step to staying protected.

How this scam works:

This scam is carefully designed to look real. Knowing each step helps you spot it early.

Step 1: You come across an advertisement for a concert crew position on Telegram or Carousell. The post appears to be from a legitimate recruitment agency and may include a verifiable agency licence number.

Step 2: You are asked to submit your personal details, including your full name, NRIC, and date of birth, and sign a "Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) agreement" as part of the application.

Step 3: You are instructed to change the email address and mobile number linked to your Singpass account to those provided by the recruiter, supposedly to apply for a "Certificate of Clearance" or "access pass" for the concert.

Step 4: With your Singpass contact details changed, the scammer receives your One-Time Passwords (OTPs) and gains access to your Singpass account, using it to open financial accounts in your name.

✅ You can spot this scam at Step 3. Changing your Singpass contact details is never a requirement for any job application. A Certificate of Clearance is also not required for local employment.

Tips to protect yourself:

Keep your Singpass contact details under your control. Your registered email address and mobile number are what keep your Singpass account secure. No employer or recruitment agency has any legitimate reason to ask you to change them.

Verify recruitment agencies independently. A licence number alone does not confirm legitimacy - scammers can copy real ones. Check the agency directly using the Employment Agencies Directory on the Ministry of Manpower's official website at mom.gov.sg.

Guard your Singpass credentials and OTPs. These are yours alone. Sharing them with anyone, including a recruiter, gives that person access to your personal accounts and financial information.

Download the ScamShield app to block scam calls and filter scam SMSes. Use it to verify suspicious messages and contact details before responding.

Report what you see. If you come across a suspicious job advertisement, report the link via the ScamShield app.

Tell the authorities immediately if you suspect your Singpass account has been compromised. File a police report or contact the Singpass hotline at +65 6335 3533 (scam support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - press “9” after dialling in).
