If you're unsure if a job opportunity is legitimate, please take the following steps:

  • Check if the company is registered on ACRA (https://www.bizfile.gov.sg/

  • Verify that the company's corporate website domain matches their email addresses. Be wary if a company only communicates through messaging apps or personal email addresses.

  • Search the job description or recruiter’s name with keywords like “scam” or “fraud”.

  • Check any suspicious phone numbers/ messages/ website links on the ScamShield app before proceeding.

When job searching, please beware of common red flags:

  • Too-good-to-be-true offers (e.g. high pay for simple tasks)

  • Asked to pay money upfront (e.g. for training, equipment, or application)

  • Job offered without interview or after a very short one

  • Asked to provide sensitive info early (e.g. NRIC, bank account, or OTPs)

  • Poor grammar or vague job descriptions

For safe job searching:

  • Apply through reputable job portals (e.g. LinkedIn, Indeed, MyCareersFuture)

  • Avoid clicking on job ads from random SMS, WhatsApp, or Telegram messages

  • Only use official apps from the App Store/ Play Store

  • Be wary if asked to continue conversations on WhatsApp/ Telegram

Other things to note:

  • If you receive suspicious job-related messages, you can use the ScamShield app to check the sender's number or suspicious messages.

  • NEVER provide your SingPass credentials, bank account details, or copies of your NRIC to potential employers before signing an official employment contract. Legitimate employers will request these documents only after a formal job offer and contract signing.

  • Remember that legitimate employers will never ask you to receive or transfer money through your personal bank account as part of your job duties, as this is often a sign of a money mule scam.

If you believe you have fallen for a job scam, please:

- File a police report if money has been transacted

- Report the suspicious phone number(s), messages or website links on the ScamShield app

- Contact your bank if you've made any transfers
