How does call blocking work on the ScamShield app?

Updated by SCAMSHIELD

The ScamShield app only blocks phone numbers at a cellular level that are marked as scam in the ScamShield database.

  • When a ScamShield user receives a suspicious phone call, they can report the caller using the Submit a Scam Report feature.

  • Following this, authorities will review the scam call report and mark the phone number as scam only after it has been reviewed and deemed suspicious. It may also take authorities some time to review scam reports based on the volume of such reports and trending scam types.

  • If the phone number is marked as scam on the ScamShield database, users who have their ScamShield call blocking permissions setup and active will no longer receive calls from this phone number.

  • However, if a suspicious phone number is not reported, it will not be reviewed and subsequently blocked. Therefore, if you have received a scam call, we request you to submit a scam report for it using the ScamShield app.

  • By reporting, you are keeping yourself and the rest of the ScamShield community safe from such scams

  • After submitting the scam call report, you may check the status of the phone number (i.e. if it has been blocked or marked as scam) by using our Check for Scams feature ("A number that called you").
