What happens after I submit a scam report?

After you submit a report on the ScamShield app:

  • ScamShield will send your scam report to the authorities for review.

  • Our backend system, comprising both AI and human analysts, will assess your submission to determine if it matches scam patterns.

  • If the phone number or link is deemed suspicious, it will be blocked by ScamShield for all ScamShield users.

  • Following this, as long as your call blocking and SMS filtering permissions are setup in the ScamShield app, you will no longer receive any calls or SMSes from that phone number.

Your report plays an important role in:

  • Helping ScamShield spot similar scam messages more accurately in the future

  • Supporting the authorities in tracking and investigating scam cases

  • Allowing action to be taken against scam phone numbers and websites

What happens after a number you reported has been blocked by authorities:

Once your reported number is verified as a scam and added to our national blocklist, you’ll receive a push notification from the ScamShield app (if your notifications permissions have been enabled).

  • To find out how to set up notifications for your ScamShield app, please refer to our product guide.

This is our way of letting you know that your report has helped protect someone else.

Every report strengthens ScamShield’s ability to fight scams and keep Singapore safe, even for those who don’t use the app. Even if you don’t get a notification right away, your report still contributes to this wider effort.

With the evolving scam landscape, the ScamShield app relies on community reporters like you to detect new scams and alert authorities about it. Once a report is reviewed, suspicious phone numbers and messages will be blocked as quickly as possible to prevent users from falling victim to scammers.

Please note that a scam report submitted on the ScamShield app is not the same as a police report.

If you've lost money to a potential scam, please immediately file a police report online or in person at the nearest Neighbourhood Police Post.

  • Please refer to our guide on what to include when you file a police report.

  • If you have already made a police report, please follow up with SPF using this Enquiry Form.

Can I undo a scam report I've made on the ScamShield app?

Once a scam report has been submitted on the ScamShield app, it cannot be undone or retracted. This is why it's important to ensure the information you're reporting is accurate before submission.

If you have accidentally submitted an incorrect report, please submit a new report through the ScamShield app.

However, if you've accidentally reported a phone number or website link - not to worry. A single report alone does not automatically mark a phone number/ website as a scam. Our system uses multiple data points and verification processes to determine if a phone number/ website is suspicious.
