Listed in the proper hierarchy, a Wali can be the bride's biological father, or male relatives from her father's side. The hierarchy is as follows:

•           Father

•           Paternal Grandfather

•           Full brother (same father and mother)

•           Consanguine brother (same father)

•           Nephew (full brother’s son)

•           Nephew (consanguine brother’s son)

•           Uncle (father’s full brother).

If there is none available, then the Kadi will assume the role as a Wali. Generally, a Wali must be : � A Muslim � In good health physically and mentally � Have attained the age of puberty.

*If the bride is a convert and does not have Muslim male relatives from paternal side, the bride should choose "No Wali" in her application supported by documents (conversion card from Muslim Converts Association of Singapore or conversion documents with endorsement letter from MUIS).
