What is "gross rate of pay"?

Gross rate of pay refers to the total amount of money, including allowances, that an employee is entitled to under their contract of service for working a period of time (e.g. hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly) or for each completed piece or task of work.

It does not include the following:

  • Overtime payments

  • Bonus payments or annual wage supplements

  • Reimbursements for special expenses incurred in the course of employment

  • Productivity incentive payments

  • Travelling, food, or housing allowances
