If parents are eligible for GPML, GPPL, or AL, can they opt for GPMB, GPPB, or GPAB in lieu of unconsumed leave?
No. Parents who are eligible for Government-Paid Maternity Leave (GPML), Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL), or Adoption Leave for Mothers (AL) but choose not to consume their leave will forfeit all unconsumed leave. They will not be able to claim Government-Paid Maternity Benefit (GPMB), Government-Paid Paternity Benefit (GPPB), or Government-Paid Adoption Benefit (GPAB) in lieu of unconsumed leave.
Parents are encouraged to utilise their leave entitlements to care for and bond with their children.
