What are the eligibility criteria for Shared Parental Leave (SPL)?
Eligible working parents can enjoy SPL, to be shared between parents and taken within 12 months from child's date of birth (inclusive of date of birth).
· From 1 April 2025: 6 weeks of SPL.
· From 1 April 2026: 10 weeks of SPL.
Biological Parent with Live Birth
Child was born, or has an Estimated Delivery Date (EDD), on or after 1 April 2025. The weeks to be shared would depend on the child's date of birth/EDD.

Additional Requirements
Child's profile:
Born on or has an Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD), on or after 1 April 2025.
Is a Singapore Citizen (SC) at birth, or becomes SC within 12 months from their date of birth (inclusive of date of birth). SPL can only start on or after the child obtains Singapore citizenship.
Marital status:
Mothers: All mothers are eligible, including widowed and single mothers.
Fathers:
Married to the child’s mother at some point between conception and birth; or
Married within 12 months from birth (inclusive of date of birth). SPL can only start on or after the date of marriage.
Employment status:
Employee: Served employer for at least 3 continuous months before and on the child's date of birth. If parent worked for less than 3 months, they may still qualify if the employer is agreeable to grant them leave.
Self-employed: Parent must have worked in trade, business, profession or vocation for at least 3 continuous months before the child's date of birth and have lost income because they have stopped working during SPL.
Adoptive Parent
Formal Intent to Adopt (FIA) date is on or after 1 Apr 2025. The weeks to be shared between parents would depend on the child's FIA date.

Additional Requirements for Adoptive Parents
Adoption details:
FIA date is on or after 1 Apr 2025.
Parent is not the biological parent of the child.
Child's profile:
Is below 12 months old on the FIA date.
Is a Singapore Citizen (SC)
If the child is not a SC, either the adoptive mother or father of the child has been a SC since the date on which the dependant’s pass (DP) is issued.
Employment status:
Employee: Served employer for at least 3 continuous months before and on child's FIA date. If parent worked for less than 3 months, they may still qualify if the employer is agreeable to grant them leave.
Self-employed: Parent must have worked in trade, business, profession or vocation for at least 3 continuous months before the child's FIA date and have lost income because they have stopped working during SPL.
