Why is MSF introducing the Social Residential Homes Bill now? Does MSF foresee an increase in the number of SRHs arising from an ageing population?
We introduced the Social Residential Homes Bill to codify the good progress that our SRHs have made in raising the standards of care over the years.
We do not foresee a significant increase in the number of SRHs, given the extensive, ongoing efforts by MOH and MND to help seniors age-in-place, e.g. Active Ageing Centres. Our SRHs complement these ongoing efforts by focusing on residents’ rehabilitation and equipping them with the relevant skills to be discharged into community living.
