Are volunteers regulated under the SRHB? Why or why not?
No, volunteers will not be regulated under the SRHB, as they require supervision when in contact with residents in the SRHs.
Similarly, MOH's Healthcare Services Act, which governs the Nursing Homes, does not regulate volunteers as well. We are mindful not to curtail the spirit of volunteerism.
Nonetheless, any person who commits an egregious offence in the SRH may be liable to penalties under other Acts, such as the Penal Code.
