What is the 2013 - Shared Parental Leave (2013-SPL)?

Updated by MSF

2013-SPL supports eligible working fathers (including self-employed fathers) in sharing parental responsibility through sharing up to 4 weeks of their wife’s Government-Paid Maternity Leave (GPML) or Adoption Leave for Mothers (AL) benefits.

Parents whose child is born, or has an estimated delivery date (EDD), or formal intent to adopt (FIA) date on or after 1 Apr 2025, are entitled to the new SPL scheme and should not be making an election for 2013-SPL. Parents of stillborn child will not be eligible for the new SPL scheme.
