I missed My DRS Monthly Instalment Payment. What Should I Do?

If you missed your monthly instalment payment for your Debt Repayment Scheme (DRS), you need to act quickly to avoid being failed from the scheme.

Important: Missing payments may result in the issuance of a Certificate of Failure. .

What to do: Contact the Official Assignee immediately and make your payment as soon as possible.

Act immediately - within 24 hours

Time is critical. The sooner you contact the Official Assignee (OA) and make your payment, the better your chances of staying on DRS.

Don't wait - hoping the problem will go away will only make things worse.

Step 1: Contact the Official Assignee immediately

Call the OA as soon as possible:

●       Phone: 1800 2255 529 (Local) / +65 6225 5529 (Overseas)

●       Best times to call: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday

What to say when you call:

1.      Give your details: "My name is [Your Name], DRS Case Reference [Your Number]"

2.      Explain the situation: "I missed my monthly payment due on [Date] because [Reason]"

3.      Show you're taking action: "I want to make the payment and stay on DRS"

4.      Ask for guidance: "What do I need to do to resolve this?"

Step 2: Explain why you missed the payment

Be honest about the reason:

Valid reasons include:

●       Bank account issues, Temporary financial hardship

●       Medical emergency, Loss in employment, Family crisis

●       Technical problems with payment portal, did not receive payment reminder

 

 

 

Prepare supporting evidence if needed:

●       Medical certificates, Termination letters, Bank statements showing account issues or any documents proving your inability to pay

Step 3: Make your missed payment immediately

Payment options:

Online payment (fastest)

5.      Go to the MinLaw eServices portal: https://eservices.mlaw.gov.sg/ecoll/

6.      Select "Debt Repayment Scheme" → "DRS Payment by Debtor"

7.      Enter your Case Reference or NRIC

8.      Select "Monthly Instalment" (NOT Annual Fees)

9.      Pay your missed payment amount: refer to your Debt Repayment Plan

10.  Save your payment receipt - you'll need this as proof

Step 4: Confirm payment with the OA

After making payment:

11.  Call the OA again at 1800 2255 529

12.  Provide your payment details:

○       Transaction reference number

○       Payment date and time

○       Amount paid

13.  Ask for confirmation that your payment has been received

14.  Request written confirmation via email if possible

What happens next?

If you act quickly (within 1-2 days):

●       OA may allow you to continue in DRS with a warning

●       You may need to provide additional assurance of future payments

If you delay or miss multiple payments:

●       You may be found unsuitable for DRS

●       Your case may be failed from the scheme, if you have commenced on the plan

Preventing future missed payments

Set up reminders:

●       Calendar alerts on your phone on the 30th day of each month

●       Email reminders to yourself a few days before the due date

  

Plan ahead:

●       Check your account balance a week before the due date

●       Set aside money for DRS payments at the beginning of each month

●       Contact OA early if you anticipate payment difficulties

What if you can't afford future payments?

If your financial situation has changed:

15.  Contact the OA immediately - don't wait until you miss another payment

16.  Explain your circumstances:

○       Loss of employment, Reduced income, medical expenses, family emergency

17.  Provide supporting documents:

○       Latest pay slips, medical bills, termination letter, bank statements

Important: The OA may be able to help if you communicate early and honestly.

●       Act within 24 hours - the sooner you contact the OA, the better

●       Be honest about why you missed the payment

●       Make the payment immediately

●       Get confirmation that your payment has been received

●       Set up systems to prevent future missed payments

●       Communicate early if you anticipate future payment problems
