What happens to the Deceased’s un-nominated Central Provident Fund (“CPF”) moneys

Updated by MLAW

When a CPF member passed away without nominating anyone to receive his / her CPF moneys, the CPF Board will transfer these moneys to the Public Trustee for distribution to the rightful beneficiary.

Step 1: CPF Board processes the payment after the death

Upon being notified of the death, CPF Board takes around 17 working days to transfer the moneys to the Public Trustee.

Step 2: Public Trustee contacts the informant / next of kin

Public Trustee will write to:

  • The person who informed CPF Board about the death, and/or

  • The Deceased's next of kin

Step 3: Next of kin / friends on behalf of the next of kin makes an online application

The next of kin can then apply online for the Public Trustee to distribute the moneys.

When to apply:

Only after the Public Trustee has received the moneys from CPF Board.

How to apply:

Go to https://go.gov.sg/pto and select "Administration of CPF / Baby Bonus / Edusave / PSEA Moneys"

You will need to have your Singpass ready in order to access our online application form. You may apply for your Singpass at https://www.singpass.gov.sg if you do not have one.

If you are ineligible to apply for a Singpass, you may apply for a login ID and password through our website: https://go.gov.sg/pto.

Examples of documents that may be required:

Documents about the Deceased:

  • Birth certificate

  • Marriage certificate

  • Divorce papers (i.e., decree nisi absolute) if the person was divorced

Documents about the beneficiary (person receiving moneys):

  • Birth certificate

  • Identity Card

Note: The type of documents required varies based on who the beneficiary is and the period/country where those documents were issued. A case administrator will get in touch with you if there are any missing documents required.
