How do we change a lawyer's registration type (e.g. from section 36C of the Legal Profession Act to section 36B) under the same law practice?
Your law practice will need to register the lawyer under the new registration type, and concurrently submit an application to terminate his/her existing Certificate of Registration ("CoR").
For continuity of practice, both applications can be submitted concurrently and in advance as your law practice can enter prospective start or end dates in the application forms. Please also factor in the various processing time required when proposing the prospective start and end dates in the application forms. The existing CoR of the lawyer will continue to be valid until the termination date.
Please note that we will only be able to issue the new CoR after we have received and processed the application to terminate the existing CoR.
