How do I check whether someone is bankrupt?

Insolvency Search Service

To check if someone is made bankrupt, you can conduct a search using the Insolvency Search Service on our website for a fee of $6.00.

With effect from 1 April 2010, records of bankruptcy orders which have been annulled will no longer be available from Insolvency Search Service.

With effect from 1 June 2010, records of bankruptcy orders which have been discharged for 5 years or more will no longer be available from Insolvency Search Service.

What to prepare

You will need:

  • ID/Passport number of the person whom you are enquiring on

  • Email address to receive search result (optional)

How to search

Step 1: Go to the Insolvency Search Service at https://go.gov.sg/bankruptcy

Step 2: Enter the person's details

E.g., NRIC, Name or Passport Number

Step 3: Make payment of $6.00

E.g., Debit Card, Credit Card or eNets

Note that if you did not receive the Insolvency Search Result(s) after making your payment, please follow the steps below before lodging an online enquiry:

  • If you have provided your email address for the E-service to send you the results, check your email to see if you have received a copy.

  • If there are no results in your inbox or spam folder, please provide us with the following details below through https://go.gov.sg/contactminlaw and our officers will send the search results to you after we verify that the search fee payment is successful within 3 working days.
