What are our criminal laws to protect vulnerable victims?

Updated by MHA

Under the Penal Code, there are enhanced penalties for offences committed against certain groups of vulnerable individuals, up to double the maximum punishment for the offence. These include: • Minors below 14 years of age • Domestic workers • Individuals who are, by reason of mental or physical infirmity, disability or incapacity, substantially unable to protect themselves from abuse, neglect or self-neglect; and • Individuals who are in intimate or close relationships with the offender.
