What is required to maintain Permanent Residence (PR) status?

Updated by ICA 29 found this helpful

A valid Re-Entry Permit (REP) is needed each time a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) travels abroad. The REP allows a Singapore PR to retain his/ her PR status while he/ she is outside Singapore. If the Singapore PR leaves Singapore or remains overseas without a valid REP, he/ she will lose his/ her Singapore PR status.

If you are physically outside Singapore without a valid REP, you have a prescribed period of 180 days to apply for an REP to retain your PR status. The REP application is subject to approval on a case-by-case basis. If you had applied for a new REP within the prescribed period, you will remain a PR until ICA has decided on the outcome of the application.

You will automatically lose PR status if you do not apply for a new REP within this 180-day period, on the day after the last day of the prescribed period. You will also lose PR status the day after the REP application rejection, even if you had submitted the REP application within the prescribed period.
