I’m importing products for my tattoo shop in Singapore. Are there any special procedures to comply with when buying equipment such as needles?

All goods imported into Singapore are subject to GST and/or duty payment. A customs permit is required to account for the import and tax payment of the goods.

Prohibited goods are not allowed to be imported into Singapore. Please click here to check if the equipment you are importing into Singapore is listed under the ‘List of Prohibited Goods for Imports’.

Controlled goods require proper authorisation (advance notification, license, or certificate approval) from Competent Authorities (CA) before they may be imported into Singapore. You are advised to check if the goods are controlled using the description of the goods, Harmonized System (HS) code** or CA product code via the HS/CA Product Code Search Engine. If the item is subject to control, you may check directly with the respective CAs on their licensing requirements.

**The HS is internationally harmonised at the 6-digit level. You may want to check with your overseas supplier for the first 6-digit HS code of the item you wish to import into Singapore.

Please see Quick Guide for Importers / How to Import Your Goods? for more information.
