What is the role of a VCO?

Updated by SPSVCO

A Volunteer Case Officer (VCO) supports inmates emplaced on community corrections by working closely with Singapore Prison Service (SPS). They provide case management and prosocial support to supervisees and help coach and motivate them in their reintegration journey.

The tasks include:

  • Engaging the supervisees at least once monthly and submitting timely progress reports after the engagements.

  • Providing case management support for the supervisees (eg. making referrals, linking them up with the relevant community agencies and resources)

  • Connecting the supervisees with peer support groups, religious groups or interest groups which they can continue being a part of even when their SPS programme ends.

  • Being a listening ear and encouraging them towards the completion of community corrections in the journey of desistance.
