Why must an employer check a doctor’s registration status and disciplinary records prior to hiring?

Only doctors who are registered with SMC and holding a valid PC may legally practise medicine in Singapore.

Employing or engaging an unregistered doctor puts patients at risk and will expose your institution to undesirable consequences. Verifying a doctor’s status takes only a few minutes and is the basic safeguard available to you.
