I am not a registered doctor with SMC, but I graduated with a MBBS/MD qualification overseas. Can I use the ‘Dr’ title?
You may wish to note that the title “Dr” is not restricted for use by a medical practitioner (medical doctor) only. An individual who is academically accredited, for example, a person who has obtained a PhD qualification, may also use the title of “Dr”. However, any person who misrepresents himself or herself as a medical practitioner or who attempts to practise as a medical practitioner without being registered with SMC will be in breach of the law and may face legal action.
