What if my health worsens after registering on the waitlist?

Updated by SGH-TRANSPLANTPEDIA

If your health condition changes, you may be temporarily placed on hold (suspension) on the waiting list. This is because a transplant may not be suitable currently and you need time to recover, undergo further tests, or receive treatment.
If your condition improves, you can be reactivated on the waiting list, and your waiting time will still count from when you started dialysis. There is no penalty to your waiting time during this on hold.
However, if your condition worsens and meets criteria for permanent removal (for example, a heart attack), you may be taken off the waiting list permanently, based on your doctor’s assessment.
