My preterm baby seems easily overwhelmed. How can I support their development without overstimulating them?

Preterm babies' brains are still maturing and they receive much more stimulation outside the womb than inside (the womb provides only 1 candlelight worth of light). To avoid overstimulation: Introduce only one type of stimulation at a time (if carrying your baby, don't talk simultaneously and dim the lights), layer stimuli slowly and watch your baby's response, if your baby shows stress signals, remove stimulation, burp them, sit them up, or pause feeding. As they mature, they'll gradually accept multiple sources of stimulation. Feel free to approach your paediatric feeding and communication speech therapists to find out more!
