When should I start talking and reading to my preterm baby?

Start now, even though they seem tiny! Communication happens from birth. Use "motherese" - a high-energy, animated voice with short, simple phrases. Emphasise key words, speak slowly, and repeat words. Pause to give your baby opportunities to respond. Point to pictures, label them, and use short phrases. To find out more about which books are appropriate and how to read to your baby, feel free to approach your paediatric feeding and communication speech therapists to find out more!
