0-6 months: Makes eye contact, follows moving people with eyes, responds to voice by turning head, smiles at people, makes sounds when playing, begins speech-like sounds with 'p, b, m, g, k' sounds. 6-9 months: Responds to name, responds to "no" with stern tone, babbles with 2 similar sounds (baba, mama), imitates sounds. 9-12 months: Follows commands with gestures, understands some words without gestures, uses gestures like pointing and waving, babbles longer strings of different sounds, says first meaningful word by first birthday. If you're concerned about your baby's language development, it is best to see a paediatric communication speech therapist at the earliest. Feel free to approach your paediatric feeding and communication speech therapists to find out more!
