Here's what typically happens during your fluoroscopy procedure:

When you arrive:

  • You'll change into a hospital gown if needed

  • The radiographer will explain the procedure and answer questions

During the examination:

  • You'll be positioned on an examination table or standing, depending on the study

  • The fluoroscopy machine (which looks like a large camera) will be positioned over or beside you

  • We can see live images of your body on monitors throughout the procedure

  • You may be asked to move, change positions, or hold your breath briefly

  • For some studies, you'll drink or receive contrast material

What you'll experience:

  • The procedure is usually painless

  • You'll hear the machine working

  • Staff will talk you through each step

  • You can ask questions or express concerns at any time

Duration: Procedures typically take 15-60 minutes depending on the type of study.
