How do I compound an offence?

"Compounding" an offence means settling it out of court, typically by paying a monetary sum, without admitting guilt or facing a conviction.

If you wish to compound an offence:

(a) Check Eligibility for Composition: Composition is offered at the discretion of the prosecuting agency. You may compound an offence if composition is offered by the agency responsible for prosecuting your case.

(b) Payment of Composition Fee: Payment should be made before the expiry date of the offer of composition given and, in any event, before the date of the Night Court hearing. If the offer of composition lapses or is withdrawn, you will have to attend court to plead guilty or claim trial.
