Traders will need to apply for the relevant licences or register with SFA to import food into Singapore for sale in order to ensure food safety and protect consumers in Singapore. The specific licence or registration will depend on the classification of the food or food products that you wish to import.

A licence is required when:

  • Importing, exporting or transhipping meat and fish products; or

  • Importing or transhipping fresh fruits and vegetables; or

  • Importing shell eggs.

Registration is required when:

  • Importing processed food and food appliances (e.g. foodware and utensils such as bowls, cups, pans, chopsticks and spoons)

You are deemed to be importing food for commercial sale even if you are receiving and selling food and/or food samples by parcel posts. Please refer to What You Need to Know for Import of Food for Commercial Sale for more information.

Importers should ensure that the food or food products they import into Singapore meet SFA’s requirements. Certain types of food or food products (e.g. eggs) can only be imported from overseas establishments accredited by SFA. For details, see General Requirements for Overseas Farms & Establishments Accreditation.
