Is there a minimum or maximum number of subjects that I can register as a private candidate for the GCE-Level examinations?
While there is no minimum number of subjects that a private candidate can register for, there is a cap on the number of subjects that you as a private candidate can register in each sitting of the respective GCE-Level examinations:
GCE N(A)/N(T)-Level
You may register up to a maximum of nine subjects for GCE N(A)/N(T)-Level Examinations.

GCE O-Level
