Use of ScamShield by overseas users

The ScamShield app is now available for download globally on both iOS App Store and Android Play Store. However, please note that the SMS Filtering functionality may not work effectively for users receiving SMSes from overseas senders. Please refer to the following explanations based on your user profile:

Users with overseas SIM cards

  • This also applies to dual-SIM users who have at least one overseas SIM.

  • Overseas senders may not be registered with the IMDA SMS Sender ID Registry and are therefore not whitelisted. Senders registered on IMDA SSIR are considered safe and SMSes sent from these senders will not be filtered.

  • If message content is similar to known scam messages but you believe it's safe, please contact us using our Contact Us form with a full screenshot of the SMS. This will help us improve our algorithm and address false positives.

Users with local SIM cards who are living overseas OR receiving SMSes from overseas senders

  • If you receive an SMS from an overseas sender that is not registered with IMDA SMS Sender ID Registry, the SMS may be labelled as Likely-SCAM.

  • For more information on Likely-SCAM, please refer to our FAQ here.

  • If the SMS content is similar to known scam content, it may be flagged by the ScamShield app as suspicious.

Users receiving non-English SMSes

  • Currently, the ScamShield algorithm primarily supports message content written in English. Therefore, it may not be as effective for SMSes written in other languages.

  • However, we're working on improving our algorithm to support non-English SMSes. If you receive a non-English SMS you believe is safe, please reach out to us using our Contact Us form with a full screenshot of the SMS. This will help us improve our multi-language support.

Accessing filtered or flagged SMSes:

  • iOS - you may consider checking your Junk Messages Inbox for the filtered SMS.

  • Android - you will still be able to access the SMS in your inbox.

Important note for overseas scam reporting:

Please keep in mind that if you encounter a scam from overseas while you are traveling or living abroad, it is highly likely that it does not exist in the ScamShield database. In such a case, it is more useful to report it to local authorities of the country you are staying in so prompt action can be taken against the scammers.

We're continuously working to improve ScamShield's effectiveness for all users. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us enhance our service.
