Why is PTC increasing fares for express bus services?
Express bus services offer faster and more convenient travel by skipping bus stops or travelling on expressways. With a faster journey from heartlands to city areas as compared to the regular trunk bus services, the fares of express bus services are differentiated from basic bus services.
Fares for express bus services have been $0.60 higher than basic bus fares for adults, and $0.30 to $0.50 higher for concession groups. These amounts have not changed since the introduction of distance-based fares in 2010.
To keep up with rising cost of service provision, PTC has decided to increase the price difference for card fares between express bus services and basic bus services by $0.40 for adults and $0.20 for concession groups. The price difference for cash fares on express bus services will also increase by an additional $0.40 above basic bus services.
