My next-of-kin just passed away overseas. Do I need to register the death in Singapore?
No. The death should be registered with the relevant local authorities where the death occurred. Thereafter, you should report the death to the Registry of Births and Deaths, ICA, to update the live status of the deceased. This will facilitate the settlement of probate/estate matters of the deceased with the relevant government agencies. The reporting can also be done by a proxy with a letter of authorization from the deceased's family.
