The established opinion under mazhab Syafi’i requires compounding the fidyah for a Muslim who deliberately neglects the obligation to fast without a valid excuse, delays making up missed fasts, or intentionally fails to pay fidyah despite being aware of the prohibition.

However, if paying compounded fidyah would cause severe hardship for the individual, fatwa considerations also take into account the principles of al-taysīr (facilitation) and rafʿ al-haraj (removing difficulty), as mentioned in Surah al-Ḥajj, verse 78.
