How are the new fidyah/kafarah rates calculated? Will the rate change every year? How often is it reviewed?

Updated by MUIS

The Fatwa Committee sets the fidyah rate at a median of $4.00 per meal, a figure derived from Department of Statistics Singapore data to accurately reflect local food costs. As for kafarah rate, the Fatwa Committee is of the opinion that it is determined by referring to the fidyah rate as the basis of calculation, considering that both use one meal of moderate food as the foundation.

To safeguard the welfare of the poor against inflation and rising expenses, the Committee stipulates that MUIS may determine the appropriate rate based on the principles established by the Fatwa Committee.
