Upon the death of a loved one, the following steps are typically involved in administering the estate:

Step 1: Engage a doctor to certify the death and obtain a document containing details such as the death certificate number, deceased’s information to the Next-of-Kin to download the digital death certificate.

Step 2: Visit go.gov.sg/mylegacy-edc and use the death certificate number to download the digital death certificate, which is necessary for arranging the funeral and burial.

Step 3: Obtain Inheritance Certificate (IHC) online from the Syariah Court via atwww.syariahcourt.gov.sg.

Step 4: Check for the existence of a valid Islamic will (Wasiat). If a valid Wasiat exists, the executor nominated in the wasiat must apply for the “Grant of Probate”. If there is no valid Wasiat, family members must apply for “Letters of Administration”, and the court will appoint one of them to administer the deceased’s estate.

Step 5: Prior to estate distribution via Faraid, it is important to fulfill the payment of funeral and outstanding expenses, settle the deceased’s debts, and execute the deceased’s Wasiat as required by Islamic obligations.
