How do I compute my number of working days a week (weekly index) for Government-Paid Leave (GPL) schemes?

Updated by MSF

Your number of working days a week (also called your weekly index) is determined by your work pattern, subject to a maximum of 6 days per week.

Scenario

How to calculate your weekly index

Fixed number of working days every week

Your weekly index is the number of days you work each week.

Varying working days with a regular repeating pattern

Calculate the average across the repeating cycle.

Example: If you work 5 days one week and 6 days the next on an alternating basis, your weekly index = (5 + 6) ÷ 2 = 5.5 days.

Varying working days with no regular pattern

Your weekly index is the average number of working days over the 3 weeks immediately before the applicable reference date (see below).

Reference dates for Scenario 3 (no regular pattern)

For parents with no regular work pattern, the 3-week average is calculated before the following reference dates:

  • Government-Paid Maternity Leave (GPML) / Shared Parental Leave (SPL) — natural mothers. The earliest of:

    • The first day of maternity leave

    • The child's date of birth

    • The date when all eligibility criteria are met

  • Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL) / Shared Parental Leave (SPL) — natural fathers

    • The date when all eligibility criteria are fulfilled

  • Adoption Leave for Mothers (AL) / SPL — adoptive mothers, and GPPL / SPL — adoptive fathers

    • For a Singapore Citizen adopted child: The date an application to adopt is made to the Court

    • For a non-Singapore Citizen adopted child: The date the Dependant's Pass (DP) is issued, or the date of the document indicating approval

  • Government-Paid Childcare Leave (GPCL) / Extended Childcare Leave (ECL). The later of:
