The Government-Paid Childcare Leave (GPCL) entitlement is up to 6 days of leave per year while the Extended Childcare Leave (ECL) is up to 2 days of leave per year.

If the youngest child is under 7 years old:

• Parents get up to 6 days of GPCL each relevant period.

• Up to a total of 42 days per child.

If the youngest child is between 7 and 12 years old:

• Parents get 2 days of ECL each relevant period.

• Up to a total of 12 days per child.

Leave is paid as follows:

GPCL

• Days 1 to 3: Paid by the employer at employee's gross rate of pay, or self-funded if parent is a self-employed.

• Days 4 to 6: Reimbursed/paid by the Government, capped at $500 per day, up to $1,500 a year.

ECL

• All 2 days are reimbursed/paid by the Government, capped at $500 per day, up to $1,000 a year.
